Calm down! Before providing any information on online

The world today that we follow the news from the internet. Talk to friends via social media, shopping on e-commerce, processing financial transactions via mobile apps and apply for membership for various services through the website. And one of them is to apply for service with the bank whether applying for a credit card, requesting a loan, purchasing insurance, which makes it convenient to request service from the bank much faster. We are used to contacting banks in this new channel and trusting. Sometimes may cause us to be incautious in doing online activities. Therefore, it is a gap for criminals to use our trust and familiarity to grab our personal information to seek benefits in various ways. Ordinary people will turn their status as victims with ignorance.

Normally, using the service via the website of the bank will have to ask for basic information of the customer, such as name-last name, email, telephone number, to make contact. Which makes criminals using the same method to trick consumers with important information by using logos, images and product details of the bank to display on websites other than bank websites and for interested people to fill out important personal information. Therefore, before giving personal information to anyone on the website, they must be mindful. Don't be fooled and G\give information to anyone easily. SCB has a simple technique for the examination that the website is reliable enough for us to provide our important information or not.

Look at the URL: URL or may be called as the internet address of that website by considering the following points

  • A reliable website usually starts with https: // which has a website system to specify that the transmission of information on this website will be encrypted for security with authentication and data integrity higher than http: // Almost all financial institution websites use https: // to increase security for information
  • If we are going to apply for agency service, it is safer and more reliable if it is a website of that agency directly. Or is related to that agency, such as the Siam Commercial Bank website URL, is, URL of Siam Commercial Bank credit card products is
  • Some URLs can tell which website is registered in what country, such as th = Thailand, sg = Singapore, uk = England, ch = China, etc. In the case that the URL is .com .net or others that do not specify the country clearly Can check the information of that website at which will tell where the website is registered Who owns How long has it been registered? If it is a website that is in a foreign country, it may be suspicious.

There is an unusually in-depth request for personal information, such as ID card number, date-month-year of birth. This case should suspect that it should not be normal because in general, the initial information is only required by name-surname, email, mobile phone number only.

Click and don't go anywhere: Try to fill out with fake information and then click to send information. See where the website will lead us. If clicked, it doesn't go anywhere, still on the same page. Then notice that it is not reliable and should not provide any information on that website

If unsure, can call  SCB Call Center 02-777-6780

Regularly check your own transaction data. When there are irregular items than it can be corrected immediately. And every time receiving a transaction document, each month should carefully check to make sure there are no strange items. If found suspicious items must contact the bank or service company as soon as possible.

The methods suggested above are only preliminary guidelines for verification.
The way that will help us to be safe to do things online is to be mindful and careful to check well before giving important information to anyone. And follow the news to update knowledge.
