FAQs about Deposits

What is the SCB Foreign Currency Deposit Account (FCD), and who is it suitable for?

The SCB FCD Account allows customers to deposit money in foreign currencies. It is suitable for those with income or expenses in foreign currencies, such as import–export business owners, international investors, parents paying overseas education fees, expatriates in Thailand, or customers seeking to diversify currency risk.

What currencies are supported by the SCB FCD Account, and how should customers choose?

The SCB FCD Account is available in 14 major global currencies, covering trade, investment, and international spending needs. Customers can select the currency that best suits their needs.

Available currencies include USD, GBP, EUR, JPY, AUD, CAD, DKK, CHF, HKD, NZD, CNY, SGD, MYR, and IDR.

What are the main benefits of having an SCB FCD Account?

The key advantage is managing exchange rate risk. Customers can hold funds in foreign currencies until exchange rates are favorable and make payments abroad (e.g., tuition fees, goods, and services) without converting back to Thai baht—helping reduce losses from exchange spreads. Additionally, customers can earn interest in the deposited currency.

Can funds in the SCB FCD Account be used for international investments?

Yes. Funds in the FCD Account can be transferred directly to invest in foreign assets, such as overseas stocks or offshore funds, via connected platforms like InnovestX. This enables immediate investment without incurring repeated currency conversion fees.

Are there any fees for the SCB FCD Account?

Fees may apply, such as international transfer fees or currency exchange fees, depending on the service type and bank conditions. Customers should check the latest applicable fees before making any transactions.
