Siam Commercial Bank empowers youth through ESG-guided projects using science and technology

Committed to nurturing learning and unleashing the potential of the youth, Siam Commercial Bank organized the 18th SCB Challenge competitions for high school and vocational certificate students. The aim was to encourage the creation of projects that uplift Thai communities in alignment with ESG guidelines, utilizing science and technology to showcase the capabilities of young minds. In a bid to bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and practical application, the bank provided a platform for students to apply their science and technology skills to innovate, address challenges, and contribute to community development. Emphasizing solutions that enhance efficiency without adverse impacts on society and the environment, the initiative received collaboration from the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), a crucial partner in youth technology development. NECTEC plays a vital role in supporting researchers, mentors, and expert lecturers, enabling them to provide close guidance to youths involved in project work.

This year, a total of 401 projects were submitted by students from 183 educational institutions nationwide. The selection committee identified 20 projects with potential community impact, guiding them through a 6-month period to achieve results aligned with project objectives. The top 5 projects entered the final round. Throughout the process, participating students acquired crucial 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. Additionally, they developed soft skills essential for future employment and embraced volunteerism, shaping them into well-rounded and talented individuals.

The final round of the competition recently concluded, with Ms. Araya Phuphanich, First Executive Vice President of the CSR Function at Siam Commercial Bank, presiding over the ceremony and presenting awards to students.  Dr. Kalaya Udomvitid, Deputy Executive Director at NECTEC, served as the chairman of the judging committee at SCB Academy, Siam Commercial Bank Head Office.
