Siam Commercial Bank holds merit-making ceremony at historic Talat Noi Branch for blessings
Siam Commercial Bank recently arranged Brahmin and Merit-Making ceremonies at its Talat Noi Branch. Participating in the auspicious events were Dr. Vichit Suraphongchai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SCBX Public Company Limited and Director of Siam Commercial Bank, along with top executives and SCBX Group employees.
The Talat Noi Branch holds a special place in the bank's history as its inaugural office building, succeeding the initial structure in Ban Mo Subdistrict, and marking the inception of the first Thai commercial bank. Established in 1910, the branch, strategically situated in a vital business and commercial hub, played a pivotal role in supporting the bank's expansion. Distinguished by its unique architectural style, a fusion of "Beaux Arts" and Neoclassical elements, the building stands parallel to the Chao Phraya River, captivating the attention of those traversing the river in contrast to modern commercial banks. Talat Noi became the bank's headquarters with the introduction of the branch banking system in Thailand.
Although the bank's headquarters eventually shifted to prominent economic centers on Phetchaburi Road (Chidlom) and currently on Ratchadaphisek Road (Ratchayothin Intersection), the Talat Noi branch, now over a century old, continues to serve the public. Regular renovations and repairs uphold the building's elegance, and in 1982, the branch received a prestigious award for outstanding conservation of art and architecture from the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage.
Preserving the historical significance, value, and originality of the Talat Noi branch reflects the bank's commitment and policy, a source of pride as it continues to contribute to the rich tapestry of art and architecture while carrying forward its history.
