SCBX Group through SCB Deliver Floating Rice Seeds to Non Tae Community in Chaiyaphum

SCBX Group, through Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), has delivered 1.3 tons of floating rice seeds to the Non Tae community in Chaiyaphum. This initiative expands the success of water management projects into sustainable livelihood development, enabling the community to produce rice during flood seasons and strengthen food security.

The handover was led by Mr. Saksit Pitipongsoonthorn, Senior Vice President in charge of Corporate Social Responsibility at SCB, and Professor Dr. Thidarat Boonmars, Vice President for Enterprise and Societal Sustainability at Khon Kaen University, with participation from local government agencies.

SCB has supported the development of floating rice varieties based on community needs and local context, focusing on:

  1. Research and Development of Floating Rice
In collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University, the project promotes cultivation of high-quality floating rice in flood-prone areas in the Non Tae community and surrounding areas. A pilot on 7 rai of land produced 1,346 kilograms of pure floating rice seeds. These seeds have a unique ability to elongate internodes in response to rising water levels, ensuring survival during floods. The harvested seeds will be managed as a community rice fund to sustain future cultivation.
  1. Support for Sticky Rice Cultivation (Morkor 60-1 Variety)
This sticky rice variety can be grown year-round. Fifty-two farmers have joined the program, planting on 100 rai. Its market price is higher than common rice, providing tangible additional income for the community.

Building on the success of water management initiatives supported by SCBX through SCB in partnership with the Hydro-Informatics Institute and Utokapat Foundation, SCB continues to strengthen community livelihood security. By focusing on rice farming—the community’s main occupation—this program fosters resilience, self-reliance, and sustainable quality of life.
